After the Tutankhamon exhibition in London, European culture does another step in the past through this exhibition at Louvre: Babylon Exhibition. Running from March 14th until June 2nd, 2008, the Louvre characterized this as being “introduced to the steps in the founding of the ancient city, its influence, and the roots of the later, mythical Babylon in this historical reality. As you know, ancient Babylon was located in the region south of Baghdad in modern day Iraq on the Euphrates River. After the war, some important archaeological (like Ur and Eridu) sites were damaged, and we really hope that UNESCO and organization who cares about the preservation of cultural heritage take the possibility to focus on this theme.
France24 global television network on 20 March did a cultural feature of this exhibition (France24: “By the rivers of Babylon at the Louvre“), where the Louvre curator characterized the view Christians have of Babylon as showing the dark side of the city-empire.
